Career Development Advisory Committee Meeting
Last week the New Salem, Hebron, and Glen Ullin Career Development Advisory Committee conducted its fall meeting on Wednesday, September 29, 2004. Committee members representing New Salem High School and community are: Bill Kalvoda, Allison Klemisch, Brekka Thompson, Bryce Tellmann, Robin Doll, Keith Jacobson, Roger Klemisch, Ron Schulz, and myself. Thanks to the committee members for input on the career development program and their voluntary participation on this advisory committee.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
Last week interested juniors were provided an opportunity to participate in this unique opportunity to find out more about how their interests and abilities match up to military and civilian occupations. The ASVAB also provides military cut scores for the various military occupations. There is no military obligation for those juniors who participated in this assessment. We should receive results within a week or two.
The PLAN test will be administered to all sophomores on October 12, 2004. This is a sophomore version of the ACT. In addition to ACT scores, students will also receive interest inventory results that can assist students in their career planning. We hope to receive the results around Thanksgiving.
The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. It is also used as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It will be administered to juniors interested in participating in this competition on October 13, 2004. Interested sophomores can also take this test but are not eligible to participate in the scholarship competition. If your son or daughter is interested in participating in this and has not signed-up, please have them sign-up as soon as possible.
If you have any questions on career, counseling, or assessment topics, please contact me at either New Salem High School at 843-7610 or at Hebron High School at 878-4442.
Have an excellent academic day!
