College Career Fair
On September 20th, we took the seniors to the College Career Fair at Bismarck High School. Representatives from all North Dakota colleges were there as well as from many colleges from surrounding states. This was a great opportunity to ask questions about programs at each institution. All seniors who are planning on attending college in North Dakota were able to obtain college admission, scholarship, and residence hall applications. College catalogs and related information were also available. Several branches of the military had booths as did some financial institutions. I brought back 2 boxes of college materials.

I wish to thank Mr. Wade Schulz for driving and Mr. Brandt Dick, high school principal, for helping me chaperone the seniors. Each year I am impressed by the professionalism displayed by New Salem High School students. They represent New Salem very well. It is a joy to take our students places. Our students are a reflection of our parents, school, and community. Students, parents, and teachers keep up the great effort!

Bismarck State College Visit
After the college career fair, we took the seniors to Bismarck State College for a campus visit. We had 5 tour guides and we were divided into 5 groups. During the tour we didn’t enter every building but we did get to see – up close – most of the campus, visited with some instructors, and had an inside look into some of the programs. We also saw some New Salem alumni who are students at Bismarck State College.

Thanks to the following volunteers from Bismarck State College who were our tour and information guides: Lynette Bjornson, Carol Cashman, Donna Fricke, Dan Leingang, and Mary Morrell.

Below are some pictures of the Bismarck State College Campus visit. Thanks to all of the tour guides.

I assist students in arranging campus visits. Just pick the campus, the day, and stop by my office. If the campus visit is during a school day, please complete a College Visitation/Job Shadow form that can be obtained either from my office or from my web site. You can download the form at Once on the site click on “Career Planning,” then click on “College Visit Application.”

If you have any questions on career, counseling, or assessment topics, please either visit my “Career Planning” website at or contact me at New Salem High School at 843-7610, or at my residence at 222-3222.
