We had 2 career speakers at New Salem High School last week. Mrs. Chere Allard, Assistant Professor of Energy Technology, was one of the speakers. Mr. Robert Arso, Industrial Technology Department Chair, was the other speaker. They presented information concerning careers in the following: electronics/telecommunications technology; instrumentation and control; power plant technology; and process plant technology programs at Bismarck State College. Graduates of these programs are in demand and will have great career opportunities for a lifetime.
Bismarck State College is the only college in North Dakota that offers the programs listed above. These programs and more are offered at the new Bismarck State College National Energy Center of Excellence. It is a new state of the art facility located on the south side of Bismarck State Collegeís campus. Depending upon where a graduate from one of these programs works, beginning salaries range from a low of about $ 30,000. up to $ 70,000. per year.

The next career speaker at New Salem High School will be on Monday December 1st. He will speak in Mrs. Holly Wardzinskiís classroom during 2nd, 3rd and 4th periods. So her Advanced math class and two of her algebra II classes will get to hear about computer engineering from someone who is working in that field. Among other things, attendees will learn about the education required to become a computer engineer, types of salaries and benefits, what computer engineers do, some of the plusses and minus of working in that occupation, etc.
High school students who would like to listen to this career speaker need to obtain permission from their classroom teachers and need to sign-up on a sheet on Mrs. Beckerís desk in the office.
