Red Ribbon Week!
New Salem High School and Prairie View Elementary School both participated in Red Ribbon Week which nationwide runs from October 23rd -31st each year. Red Ribbon Week was started by friends of tortured and slain drug undercover Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. His friends began wearing red badges of satin in his memory and efforts to combat illegal drugs. Today, Red Ribbon Week is a grassroots effort to protect children from the dangers of alcohol and other drugs.
At Prairie View Elementary School Mary Lou Klemisch came up with the idea of finding some funding to purchase shirts that will not only send a strong anti drug and alcohol message during Red Ribbon Week but any time the students wear their shirts.
Here are some pictures of the students and staff in action with the red shirts during Red Ribbon Week!

Mrs. Deann Werre does her part too.

I commend Mary Lou Klemisch, Deborah Vining (Principal) and the entire staff at Prairie View Elementary School for their efforts in protecting children from the dangers of alcohol and other drugs. These students will remember the special event and the anti drug and alcohol message that was sent. It will probably help some of us who are a little older too.
At New Salem High School Egor Igorovsky visited each classroom with a Red Ribbon Week message. I hope the students will remember Egor’s message about making “smart decisions” not only during “Red Ribbon Week” but throughout the year. Thanks to all committee members for your input at the meeting as well as throughout the school year. I want the Career Development Program that I work with to meet the needs of the students to the greatest extent possible.
