Bully Prevention Workshop
On May 3rd some students and I had a very busy and exciting day. Lauren Kautzman, Heidi Nilsen, DeLayna Bueligen, Kendra Hoger, Emily Pulver, Karly Doll and I attended a Bully Prevention Workshop at Hazen High School. Maxine Beckwith and Cathy Brier - counselors at Hazen Public Schools - did a great job of helping us identify bullying as well as learn some intervention and prevention strategies. Some of the students have already shared some of what they learned in the classroom.

Here is a photo of those who attended the Bully Prevention Workshop. Students in the back row left to right are: Lauren Kautzman, Heidi Nilsen, Kendra Hoger, and DeLayna Bueligen. Front row left to right are: Dr. Becker, Emily Pulver, and Karly Doll. Thanks to the students for their leadership in this activity.

Violence Prevention
During the past 2 weeks during my classroom presentations in Mrs. Olheiser's 7th Grade English Classes, we discussed violence prevention and what it takes for students to strive to be violence free. In addition to some classroom activities, students were given the School Pledge of Non-Violence and a sheet of magnets from the North Dakota Adult Abused Resource Center. Each year we have a unit on bully prevention and nonviolence for our 7th grade students. Each year the students are very receptive to staying violence free. This helps students to be better able to concentrate on their academics and to become more productive students and citizens. Thanks to the students for their efforts!

Career Development Advisory Committee Meeting
A few weeks ago a subgroup of the Career Development Advisory Committee met for our spring meeting. New Salem Career Development Advisory Committee members who were present were: Kendra Thompson, Brekka Thompson, Bryce Tellmann, Robin Doll, Ron Schulz, Gordon Davis, and me.
After the consortium meeting via ITV, some of the local committee members met to go over the Career Speaker Survey Results and to plan for future speakers to come in to talk to New Salem High School students about occupations and careers students are interested in.
Below is a picture of some of the committee members who stayed to work on the future career speakers. They are left to right: Ron Schulz, Bryce Tellmann, Brekka Thompson, and Kendra Thompson.

Thanks to all the New Salem Career Development Advisory Committee members for your participation.
