"A" McCormick Farmall
Mr. Shawn Feiring’s Agriculture Education (Ag. Ed.) IV students had several projects this past school year. Ag. Ed. IV is an elective course for seniors. One of the projects was a restoration of an “A” McCormick Farmall tractor. When the class was finished with the project the tractor had new paint, new decals, and some upgraded mechanical components. That little “A” looked like a new tractor when it was done.
Here are some pictures of the seniors on task in Ag. Ed. IV.
(See The New Salem Journal for photos)
After the tractor was completed thanks to Mr. Gordon Davis, I was given an opportunity to drive the “A.” What a smooth operating fun little tractor! I’ve thought about looking for an older little tractor that perhaps I could tinker with. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to fix it up like Mr. Feiring’s and his students did. However, I could do what I can and then turn it over to people who have the kind of skills that Mr. Feiring and his students have.
Yes, it sure took me down memory lane. You see, the first tractor I drove over 50 years ago was an “A” that my father had on his farm. Now, the last tractor I’ve driven to date is also an “A.” I have to admit that this “A” is in better working order than the one I first drove 50 years ago.
I can envision in the future some of these students restoring an old tractor on their own. What a great experience!
New Salem High School students are indeed fortunate to have so many varied experiences in all of our CTE programs as well as all of the classes, extra-curricular activities and other opportunities New Salem High School has to offer.
