If they do, you may want to consider attending this year’s North Dakota Counseling Association’s Annual Conference. Attendance is not just for counselors. Anyone with an interest in learning about counseling topics is welcome to register and attend.
This year’s theme is “Working Together/Helping People.” There are a total of 43 interesting breakout sessions that are being offered.
“Rachel’s Challenge” is this year’s opening keynote session. Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. This keynote is a powerful presentation that “inspires, instructs, and enables students to bring positive change to a school’s atmosphere.”

What: North Dakota Counseling Association
Annual Conference

When: February 1-3, 2009

Where: Best Western Ramkota Hotel, Bismarck

This year’s conference appears to be another conference in which I will come away with additional enthusiasm and knowledge. The conference provides me with new ideas as a result of attending the sessions and from networking with counselors from across North Dakota. In addition we have attendance from Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana.

“Beyond Anger Management”
This year’s pre-conference is titled, “Beyond Anger Management.” James Blundo, PLLC, of Rochester Hills, Michigan has done many workshops for counselors over his 35-year career. He is a former schoolteacher and school counselor. He has worked in agencies, psychiatric clinics, and has owned a private practice for 28 years. This pre-conference is at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck and runs from 8:00-4:00 on Saturday, January 31, 2009. The pre-conference is sponsored by the “North Dakota Mental Health Counselors’ Association” and the “North Dakota School Counselor Association.”

The conference and pre-conference are not only for counselors. They are for anyone with an interest in counseling or related topics. To learn more about the conference, registration, costs, etc. go to the North Dakota Counseling Association’s website at To find out more about the pre-conference, click on the “Anger Management Pre-conference Brochure, 2009.”
To find out more about the conference sessions, click on “Focus Newsletter” and then click on “Current Issue November 2008.” The go to page 6. Conference and Pre-conference registration information is also on this website.

From what I’ve seen so far on breakout sessions, keynote speakers, and the pre-conference, it is bound to be another great conference. If you are interested, I hope to see you there!
