Opportunity

2010 has arrived along with snowy and cold weather. Opportunity is all around us in life and in a new year. When the weather is cold and snowy it is an opportunity to stay indoors and organize closets and drawers and clean out storage areas. This is a task the Beckers do each year in January. For students it is an opportunity to organize their lockers and study folders and materials so they can do well in school. For seniors the winter months are a good time to complete scholarship applications. Parents be sure to encourage your seniors to get the applications online or from Mrs. Becker and follow-up with them to help them complete the applications and turn them in by the deadlines.

The winter months are also an opportunity to spend some time with family members either outdoors moving snow together or staying indoors to do family activities together. Preparing home cooked meals and baking are great ways to spend time together and teach children how to help themselves have a healthy diet. Girls and boys alike can benefit from knowing how to cook favorite foods so they can prepare them when they leave home to be on their own. Start teaching children how to prepare one favorite food.

Even though winter is not Mrs. Beckerís favorite season, she does her best to have a good attitude towards winter and the opportunities it provides. It is our hope that students will take advantage of the opportunities that school provides and make progress in their career planning. Seniors, if you have not applied for college yet or need help getting direction after high school graduation, January is a good time to visit Mrs. Becker for help with that. She will be at the high school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in January.
