The 27th annual Energy Generation Conference will be held January 25-26, 2006 at the Bismarck Civic Center Exhibit Hall. There is a $ 30. Per day registration fee for those who register prior to January 13th. The registration fee after January 13th is $ 35. There are also some pre-conference sessions available for an additional cost. To find out more information either go to their website at http://www.bismarckstate.edu/cce energy or call Karen Selenski at (701) 224-5688. Looks like they have some great keynote speakers.

Energy Generation Conference for Students!
There is also a special Energy Generation Conference day on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 for 25 selected students who are in grades 10, 11, or 12. For those 25 who are selected there is no registration fee and the Energy Generation Conference will provide a lunch. The student mission of this conference day is to expose secondary students to the energy career opportunities in North Dakota. The deadline for students to apply for these 25 spots was January 10th. However if a student is interested in attending the conference please contact me ASAP for an application and I will check if there are any remaining spots. You may also contact Donna Fricke, the South West Tech Prep Coordinator, at Bismarck State College at (701) 224-5761 or e-mail her at Donna.Fricke@bsc.nodak.edu.

Ag Career Night
North Dakota State College of Science’s (NDSCS) Ag Ambassadors will be hosting an Agriculture Career Night on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. It will begin at 5:30 P.M. and will be held in the Tech Center room 87.
Agriculture Career Night is student lead and will cover a variety of topics. Attendees will receive information regarding agriculture programs and what college life is like at NDSCS. Department tours will be conducted followed by a meal and a presentation. This event is open to high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, FFA advisors, Agriculture Education instructors, counselors, and high school principals. There is no charge for the event. If you are interested, please RSVP by February 4, 2006 to Karen Reilly at 1-800-342-4325 ext. 32189 or e-mail Karen.Reilly@ndscs.nodak.edu.

Think Big Day
NDSCS also has a Think Big Day on Friday, February 3, 2006. Think Big Day is designed to develop technically competent entry-level service technicians for Caterpillar Dealerships regionally and throughout the world. Students receive up-to-date technical training on Caterpillar equipment and systems through a combination of classroom instruction, hands on laboratory instruction, and an internship at the participating Caterpillar Dealer. Work experience at a Caterpillar dealership is a part of this program. If you are interested please RSVP at NDSCS Enrollment Services at 1-800-342-4325 ext. 32202.
In addition, NDSCS also is conducting the following:
Saturday visit on February 11, 2006, and
Auto/Diesel Day on February 17, 2006.
.
Although I used NDSCS as the example to write about in this article, each college in North Dakota has similar events and calendars with their own unique dates and events to assist students and adults of all ages to learn about their programs and to assist people in the career planning and career decision-making process. Anyone who is thinking of attending a college/university in the fall of 2006 should have either already contacted the college and the program of their choice so that events like the above are not missed or if this has not been done to do this as soon as possible.

College Financial Aid Information Saturdays
The North Dakota Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NDASFAA) is providing financial aid sessions at various college campuses during January and February. These sessions will cover the same information that Sandy Klein, Financial Aid Director at Dickinson State University, covered for those who attended our local Financial Aid Night on November 28th. If you missed our Financial Aid Night, this is an opportunity to attend. Attendees at these meetings will be able to register to win one of the five $ 250. Scholarships that will be drawn this spring. One of my students at Hebron won one of these scholarships last year!
