If they do, you may want to consider attending this year’s North Dakota Counseling Association’s Annual Conference. There are a total of 35 interesting breakout sessions that are being offered. Marie Wakefield is this year’s keynote speaker. Marie Wakefield is the current President of the American Counseling Association. She has been a teacher, school counselor, and a principal. Her goals include: raising awareness of the nature of counseling, its impact on the quality of life, and how it differs from other professional services.

What: North Dakota Counseling Association Annual Conference

When: February 11-13, 2007

Where: Best Western Ramkota Hotel, Bismarck

I always come away from our annual conference with added enthusiasm and knowledge from the conference presenters. In addition, I always get some good ideas from networking with other counselors I see from across North Dakota as well as from counselors from Montana, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

This year’s pre-conference is titled, “Impact Therapy: Using Multi-Sensory Techniques in Counseling.” Dr. Ed Jacobs is a nationally certified counselor and is a licensed professional counselor in West Virginia who has been in private practice for over 25 years. He is the author of 2 books, “Creative Counseling Techniques” and “Impact Therapy.” This pre-conference is at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck and runs from 8:00-4:00 on Saturday, February 10, 2007. The pre-conference is sponsored by the “North Dakota Mental Health Counselor Association” and the “North Dakota School Counselor Association.”

The conference and pre-conference are not only for counselors. They are for anyone with an interest in counseling or related topics. To learn more about the conference, registration, costs, etc. go to the North Dakota Counseling Association’s website at To find out more about registration click on “Annual Conference.” If you want to find out more about the conference schedule and breakout sessions, click on “FOCUS Newsletter” and then click on “Current Issue – November 2006.” After the “FOCUS” newsletter loads go to page 6 for information about the “Pre-conference” or go to page 7 for the “Conference Schedule” and “Breakout Session Topics.”

From what I’ve seen so far on breakout sessions, keynote speakers, and the pre-conference, it is bound to be another great conference. If you are interested, I hope to see you there!
