Financial Aid Night!

We had a great turnout for the annual Family Financial Aid Night. Twenty-one students and parents were in attendance to listen to Mrs. Sandy Klein, Director of Financial Aid at Dickinson State University, present on federal financial aid. She went over every item on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Form. She provided insight into what is meant by some of the questions as well as some does and doníts regarding the financial aid process. Thanks Sandy for both your time and your expertise.

For the past several years Iíve asked college representatives and vendors I see at conferences and at New Salem High School if they have door prizes they would like to provide for our Annual Financial Aid Night. This year I got a big surprise when I asked Shannon Balerud from Rasmussen College Ė Bismarck. She not only said yes she would but she also provided about 1 dozen shirts, CDs, pens and pencils. In addition, she volunteered to bring sandwiches, cookies, chips, and something to drink. She provided these to not only New Salem High School but also to Glen Ullin and Hebron High Schools as well.

Rasmussen College offers both associate and bachelor degree programs. Thanks to Shannon Balerud and Mike Heitkamp (above) from Rasmussen College for providing the snacks and many door prizes!

PLAN Test
On December 4th (tomorrow) all sophomores will be taking the PLAN Test. This test is a sophomore version of the ACT that sophomores have been taking at New Salem ever since my first year (2001) at New Salem High School. The PLAN provides college readiness information as well as occupations to consider on the ACT World of Work Map. It also provides sophomores a good feel for the ACT. Once again, the best way to do well on the PLAN and the ACT is to take and do well in advanced math, science and English courses. For that matter, one should do well in every class and learn all one can about reading, English, science and math. Good luck on the tests!
