Financial Aid Night
This informational meeting is designed to assist parents of high school seniors, seniors, and anyone in the community who is interested in getting the most and the best financial aid possible for attending college. Sandy Klein, Director of Financial Aid at Dickinson State University will guide us through each of the questions on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. This form is required for everyone who wishes to access federal funds whether it is federal funds in subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loans, PELL Grants, SEOG Grants, North Dakota Grants, and work-study, etc. FAFSA forms will be available January 4th.
Your attendance at this workshop on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. in the ITV Room at New Salem High School will help you obtain the best financial assistance for your student while attending college. I plan on having a door-prize. I hope that every high school studentís parent(s) are in attendance. This workshop is especially for parents.
Students and families attending can register for two $ 250 scholarships offered by the North Dakota Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NDASDFAA). If both parents and the high school senior attend, the seniorís name will get entered three times in the drawing. The drawing will be conducted at the annual NDASDSFAA held this coming spring. If you have any questions regarding attendance at this meeting, please contact me.

The Southwest Regional Tech Prep Management Team Ė of which I am a member - met at Hebron High School on December 10, 2004. Tech Prep supports, promotes, and encourages quality educational programs and innovative delivery methods that link secondary and postsecondary education, employers, and communities to ensure a skilled and educated workforce. Among other things, Tech Prep arranges for various opportunities for students throughout North Dakota to learn about various careers by providing in-depth looks at various occupations through various career academies. The Telecommunications Academy held in June each year at Bismarck State College and the Manufacturing Academy in Dickinson are two of the many career academies held in North Dakota. Students who attend these career academies can also earn high school credit and in some cases receive a stipend for attending as a result of business partner contributions.
Thanks to Hebron Brick for a very informative and interesting tour of their facility. I and the other team members were very impressed by both the brick making process as well as the employees. The participants were also impressed with the high school plant teachers, staff, and the school lunch! Lappís Kuchen was also a big hit!
I have been working on a new web site and now have it on line Ė thanks to my son Karl. The website is designed to assist students, teachers, parents, community members and others in career planning. Although it is up, I will have changes made to it from time to time. I will also have this article and some past articles on it. The website can be seen at http://www.cplanning.org.
