Financial Aid Night
We will conduct a Family Financial Aid Night on Monday, November 28, 2005. The session will begin at 7:00 P.M. in the ITV Room. This workshop is for the parents of this yearís seniors who are planning on attending college next year. In addition, any community members who are thinking of attending college in the near future and/or who would like to find out about the financial aid process are welcome to attend.

Sandy Klein, Director of Financial Aid at Dickinson State University, will be our guest speaker. She does an excellent job of explaining the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the form that must be completed in order for a student to access federal funds of all sorts. This includes PELL Grants, SEOG Grants, and state grants. The FAFSA is also required for students to receive various subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loans.

This year each person who attends will enter their name or their son or daughters name into a $ 250.00 scholarship competition. The winners were drawn at random. One of the two state winners last year was a student from Hebron. Both of her parents and she attended the workshop and so her name went into the drawing 3 times. So not only is the workshop worthwhile in learning about the FAFSA, students have a chance at a scholarship as well.

Thanks to Steven Maershbecker, Hebron High School Principal, for coordinating the Hebron ITV site for this yearís workshop. This is the 5th consecutive year of Mr. Maershbecker volunteering to give another night to see that students and their families can get the best college financial aid package possible. See you there!

North Dakota State Assessments
We finished assessing all students in grades 3-8, and 11 with the North Dakota Reading and Mathematics Assessments. The assessment materials were returned to CTB/McGraw-Hill for scoring. The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction has just sent communication that we will receive the results of the North Dakota State Assessment by February 15, 2006. Again this year, Hebron Public Schools will not receive norm-referenced scores that compare how individual students and Hebron Public Schools scored compared to the rest of the country.

Thanks to the teachers for all their work in teaching and assessing the students, and thanks especially to the students for doing their best. This year the percentage of students who must score at or above the proficient level will increase over last year. Hopefully, Hebron Public Schools will again make adequate yearly progress.
