Summer Academies!

Wondering what to do over the long summer? Instead of spending long, hot, windy, restless, summer days wasting away, how about doing something fun and exciting with new friends you meet from around North Dakota. Summer Academies will not only provide unique learning experiences about various occupations within various career clusters but can help you learn about running your own business, learn to cook from some chefs, or learn about technology and more.

Here are some of the academies being held this summer:

Business Challenge
This entrepreneurial experience is for students in grades 9-12 and K-12 educators. It will be conducted at Dickinson State University. This year’s event is scheduled from July 9-14, 2006 for students. The Early Bird Registration Fee prior to May 31st is only $ 95. Beginning June 1st the registration fee is $ 125. Students earn credit, learn to run a business, learn from motivational speakers, tour industry sites, enjoy a trip to Medora and have a great time!

Educators will experience a 4-day track with 2 semester credits. The educator track is from July 9-12, 2006. It is a great experience for all! For more information go to: http://www.gobusinesschallenge.com or contact Colleen Rodakowski at 1 800 279-4296, ext. 2515 or (701) 483-2515.

Culinary Arts Academy
This academy runs from July 9-14 and from July 17-21, 2006. High school students also earn ½ a high school credit. Classes are conducted at Bismarck High School. The application deadline is May 5, 2006. Students are responsible for their own housing and transportation. Participants get to eat the fruits of their efforts – yummm!

Electronics Telecommunication Academy
An Electronics/Telecommunication Academy will be held at Bismarck State College from June 4-9, 2006. Current high school sophomores and juniors who are accepted and complete the program will receive $ 125. Students will stay in a dormitory at Bismarck State College and their lodging and meals will be provided. The application deadline is April 14, 2006. However, last I heard there were still 2 openings. So if you are interested, contact me for an application ASAP!

Microsoft Digigirlz High Tech Day Camp 2006
Microsoft Digigirlz is for girls entering the 8th – 10th grades for the 2006-07 school year. This is the first time that Digigirlz will be held outside of Seattle, Washington. Some other summer academies that were conducted in 2005 and may be scheduled again for the summer of 2006 are: Energy Industry Career Academy; Camp Cyber Prairie, Careers in Aquatic Science; Certified Nursing Assistant Summer Academy; Constructing the Future; Environmental and Biological Science Academy; Herdina Academy for Construction Trades; Rolette Health Academy; and more!
