Career Planning Website @ CPlanning.org
This article provides information about a career planning website. This website contains:
1. Counselor's Corner articles I have written for the past 2 years.
2. Scholarship Lists
4. Career Planning Links
5. Links to North Dakota College websites
6. Financial Aid & Scholarship Links
7. State and Federal Government Websites
8. Other links to various North Dakota websites
Counselor's Corner Articles
If you would like to see the current article or a past article, simply go to www.cplanning.org and click on New Salem Articles. Then click on the specific article.
These are lists of current scholarships that are also posted on the bulletin board outside my office door. The two lists have a slightly different appearance due to formatting restrictions on the Internet. Please read the format directions at the top of the page so that the scholarship list is more useful. Then click on the scholarship list with the most recent date for either Hebron or New Salem High School. The scholarship format is a little different than what I post outside my office door and distribute to students but it has the same information including scholarship name, deadline, who can apply, award, and some of the scholarship requirements. I hope this helps parents assist students in selecting, applying for, and receiving scholarships.
This section provides ACT test dates as well as test dates for the ASVAB, PSAT/NMSQT, North Dakota State Assessment, PLAN, and SAT test dates. It also provides some links to the ACT and the College Board's web sites.
This section provides links to various career planning resource web sites. “Careerinfonet” provides career videos on the 16 career clusters as well as videos on hundreds of occupations within each career cluster. So if a person likes a particular career cluster, one can view several videos about several specific occupations within that cluster. A “How To Study” link is provided which is great for either interested students as well as interested parents.
If you are interested in seeing a North Dakota college or university website, this section provides instant access to any college in North Dakota.
Scholarships & Financial Aid
Here access to scholarship search websites, financial aid calculators, student loans, and of course the U.S Department of Education's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) web site. The FAFSA is the document that needs to be completed in order for a college student to be able to qualify for federal grants, loans, & college work-study. For more information about Federal Student Aid, please see my December 28, 2005 and January 25, 2006 Counselor's Corner articles.
The Government section not only contains links to some state agencies but also contains the FAFSA website link and some fun and interesting web sites for students such as “Jobs for Kids Who Like” various things. Simply click on what you like and it provides various occupations based on what people like.
This section provides immediate access to many state and federal government websites ranging from “Job Service North Dakota” and “Tech Prep” to “Bureau of Labor Statistics” “Job Corps”, U.S. Census Bureau”, and “Career Videos.”
This is a great section to go to and discuss some career options with your son or daughter. Adults may find this section interesting as well.
This section includes access to the official North Dakota State Government website where all state agencies can be accessed. In addition direct access can also be obtained to some state education agencies and access to each North Dakota school's website listed under “North Dakota Schools.” Each school's student achievement and adequate yearly progress (AYP) reports can be seen in the link titled “School District Profiles in North Dakota.”
I hope that you find this web site helpful. No, I did not create the website. However, I wish to thank my son Karl Becker who made this web site for me back in 2004. He even made it easy for me to update various parts of it. If you have any feedback for me to improve the website, please let me know.
